Question by girlzmommy: Baby sign Language?
I did ask this in the newborn catergory but though I might get some more answers in another catergory so I’m going to ask here too
My son didn’t talk until he was well past 3 years of age. He has dyspraxia and SID. While working with early intervention we started using ASL with him and it reduced his temper tantrantums and our frustrations immensely. Since then I have been thinking of doing Sign Language with our new baby and wondered how many people have done it with their babies.
So if you used sign language with your babies:
How old were they when you started modeling sign? At what age did they start mimicking you back? DId you use ASL or a form of “baby sign”? Did it delay their speech or make it come quicker like I heard it does? Does it actually cut down on the frustrations and temper tantrums because you can all communicate?
Sorry for so many questions but thanks for all your answers!

I work as an infant teacher in a room with babies ages 2 weeks to 12 months. We sign with all of our infants, particularly ones ages 3 months and up. Most of the four month olds pick up one or two signs, especially if the parents do them at home as well. By six months, most babies know a number of different signs and will use them to ask for more, food, or drink. We use ASL. We have found that signing helps immensely with frustration of both the teachers and the babies, because we know what the babies want and they can communicate with us. As for delayed/early speech, this differs between children.

Question by Noelle C: What do you think about the experience of breast feeding?
-What does it feel like? Does it hurt?
-Do you feel comfortable breast feeding in public places?
-How do you feel about breast feeding around older chidren?
-Do you think it is okay to breast feed older children (4-5 years old)?
-Was it ever difficult for your children to suckle your nipple due to small size?
Thanks
I am almost sure I will choose to breast feed, but just wanted some other insight. I am already aware of the numerous benefits.

It hurt when I was trying with my newborns, but neither one of them could latch on, with help from the hospital lactation consultant! I really wish I could have though. If you can, I would do it!
