Before you leave give the baby one of your shirts that has a perfume smell you usually wear on it and give it to her. She’ll smell Mommy and will calm down. As for your neighbor explain to him no one is hurting the baby, she just wants Mommy. If he still calls the cops when your baby cries, I suggest you move to a different part of the condo.

Wow, that sounds like a difficult time. Is your sister trying to comfort your baby at all? Has she tried holding her, giving her a toy, a blankie, a pacifier, or any comfort object? Sometimes when my baby is out of sorts a nice bath helps her feel better and she almost always calms down if we go for a walk. Even if she just put her in the stroller and walked in the hallway, she might feel better and go to sleep. I don’t like my baby to watch TV, but sometimes a Baby Einstein video helps her settle down for a little while.

Other than those suggestions, which you’ve probably tried, I think you’re doing all you can. It is hard to manage working and a baby. The neighbor needs to undersand that he lives in a busy building and that there are people with families, and that babies cry. He needs to understand that there is noise from neighbors. He probably calls to complain about the people above him walking around making noise on his ceiling. If he requires that much peace and quiet, he should move someplace quieter. Good luck! I hope your baby gets past this soon.

If this usually happens around the same time, have your sister anticipate it a bit and change her scenery. Put her in a stroller ans walk the halls of the condo for a bit. This will keep your baby distracted, and be a fun bonding thing for her and her aunt. If the guy continues to call the police, just file what I believe an excessive abuse of the system complaint. I am not 100% on the term, but it is used for if someone is calling the police excessivly for no reason other than to annoy the person being called about. Call your local police station, not 911, and see if they offer something like that. If you still have no luck, see if you can be relocated one more time. Good luck!

What does your sister do to comfort the baby? Has she tried walking, singing, feeding, changing, patting, rocking and the other standard fare? Does she wear the baby in the sling? What does the baby eat? Is it her food that makes her upset?

It sounds like your neighbor just doesn’t want to live next to a baby. There’s nothing that can be done about that!

8 months is the time that babies experience separation anxiety. There’s really no way around that. Your daughter will have to learn that you always come back. Your sister will have to distract her with playtime, dinner, a bath, lullabies that you have recorded and she can play back, a bottle, and rocking to sleep. She’ll have to stay patient and you will too. Your neighbor will have to get over it. It’s not like you’re playing the radio too loud or shouting, you have a fussy baby. It happens.
